So it’s the first day of half term, of course my girls wake up at 4:30am wide awake and ready for the exciting day ahead! Into my bed they get and peppa pig is on repeat for the next 2 hours, as I sit in bed completely exhausted and oblivious to my surroundings my girls proceed to throw clothes all over my bedroom… “mummy we’re going to play in our bedrooms” so off they go and within 10 minutes it looks as though a gigantic whirlwind has hit all 3 of our bedrooms…. And here we go again!
So by about 6:30 we are up, breakfast is made, spilt all over the carpet within about 6 seconds and I reach for the baby wipes!
After about 2 hours of eating breakfast it’s time to get dressed for our amazing day ahead, my eldest daughter Gracie gets herself dressed, she’s 5 and thinks she’s a fashion icon, yellow sparkly tights, patterned skirt and bright blue top it is, “you look beautiful gracie”. We are not leaving the house today.
Isabelle, my youngest daughter… “let’s get you dressed Iz” she runs as far away from me as she can with her bare bottom, where is her nappy I ask myself! 30 seconds later I hear a scream from Gracie.. “MUM, Isabelle has done a big log on my carpet” Gracie is hysterically crying/shouting at this point. Oh my god, happy holidays!
I proceed to clear up the giant shit on Gracies carpet and get Isabelle dressed after about an hour, off to the park we go (I cannot cope with another hour of my house being trashed). On the way to the park Isabelle is in the car seat next to me turning the music up as loud as she can, meanwhile Gracie is screaming and crying saying her ears hurt and I MUST turn it down RIGHT NOW.
So we arrive at the park ready to blow off some energy and I’m thrilled that I’ll be able to ware the girls out (hoping for an afternoon nap because I look and feel like deaths door). And the heavens open up. It is pissing it down. What the hell do we do now!?
So we arrive at McDonald’s and my anxiety is increasing wondering if Isabelle will bolt off and run riot around the place, we get out of the car and I’m impressed with myself that they both held my hand the whole way (from the car park to the door which is about 500metres). In we get and the place is rammed, kids EVERYWHERE, screaming, shouting, crying, pushing and shoving. Like my worst nightmare. “Right girls let’s order our food and hope a table comes free”. Isabelle is running riot at this point, doing circles of the tables screaming “I want ice cream”, to which I reply “yes Iz let’s wait nicely in the queue and we will get get your ice cream”. She actually listened for about 30 seconds and I managed to order, after waiting 10 minutes for the order holding what felt like my ten stone two year old we finally had our food. No tables were available, “just put it in a big bag and I’ll take it to the car”. A paper bag was handed to me, took us about 3 years to get back to the car with me genuinely wondering if I could carry this food on my head! Into the car we got, chips, ketchup and ice cream EVERYWHERE. I give up, I literally give up, on day one of half term.
We get home, the girls want to watch a movie so horrid Henry goes on and Gracie starts calling Isabelle poo breath and trump face, a yogurt flies across the room and hits my new sparkly mirror. This just sums up my day. All by about 3pm.
Our day continued to be just as hectic with attempting to make cakes, flour everywhere and me getting stressed out of my mind about egg shell being in the cake mix. Colouring at the table, I attempt to make tea and come back to the tablecloth being completely covered in pen.
Bath time and the girls are obviously exhausted from being up since 4:30, tears, tantrums, fights and non stop questions… “what are we doing tomorrow mummy?”, “who are we seeing tomorrow mummy?”, I’ve got another 8 days off mummy, where will we go?”
And off to bed they go, obviously not without a fight and “I WANT TO STAY AWAKE AND PLAY”. But they go, and eventually drift off and I pour a glass of wine to get over the trauma of the day and find myself thinking… I love my girls so very much!!
Happy f*****g holidays!!!
